Community Canvassing - Tricounty Tenants & SCHJN (Copy)
Come thru and community canvass with us! It’s not your traditional knocking on people’s doors and persuading them to vote. We’ll be in neighborhood parks that are high (human) traffic spots, community gathering areas, and bus stops … meeting our community - literally - where they are and offering the information or resources they need to know.
SC Housing Justice Network is pairing up with TriCounty Tenants to hit our favorite neighborhood parks, both in areas with high eviction rates and very little tenant protections. We invite “anyone anywhere” to hang out at the park with us and help us:
Engage in conversations with community members about tenant issues in the neighborhood
Give folks info about current tenant protections and available resources
Build awareness about Tri-county Tenants fighting for more protections in Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties.
No experience? No problem!
Each canvassing session will start with a 20-minute 'Canvassing Best Practices' conversation, give out talking points and FAQs, and then we'll get into groups and assign park areas.
** SCHJN will have childcare available and gas cards.

Testify or Witness @ Children’s Committee Hearing
The Children’s Committee is hosting several hearings to hear from the public about children's issues in South Carolina. Children are impacted by the raising rents, high eviction rates, and slumlords in SC when their caregivers can’t obtain or maintain clean, safe, and affordable housing. Their health, education, and well-being are impacted. A tenant leader from SCHJN will testify and we invite others to sign up to do the same and submit written testimony or come along to witness and show support in numbers. Those who sign up will get a t-shirt that says, “The Rent Is Too Damn High.”
Testimony Training
This will be a meeting space for folks to come, get trained up on giving testimony, and have time to work on their personal testimony. Training will not take the entire time, just extend the time a bit so folks feel like they can stay and work on their testimony
